Our brains become lethargic just like our bodies.  If you want to achieve a new level of creativity, then you’ve got to find some ways to get your mind moving at peak efficiency.

Stimulating the brain isn’t that difficult and the results can be truly astonishing.  I’ve used the techniques below myself so, I know they work.  I’m sure you’ll find them as useful as I do.

7 Powerful Ways to Stimulate Your Mind

Creativity flows most freely when your mind is highly stimulated.  So, if you want some new, awe-inspiring ideas, then you’ve got to work your brain into a mild frenzy.  You’ve got to give it something to wake it up and get it churning.

Here are seven ways to stimulate your brain for astonishing creativity:

1.  Exercise Your Body

Aerobic exercise gets the heart pumping and blood flowing.  This increases the oxygen level in the brain which will clear the cobwebs and open up your creativity.  Exercise also relieves stress which can be a big inhibitor of imaginativeness.  So, if you are struggling to produce marvelous ideas, spend thirty minutes in a hard workout and you’ll be amazed at the mental acuity it will produce.

2.  Eat Brain Food

What you eat has a big effect on how well your brain functions.  If you want to super-charge your mind, then give it some high-octane fuel to burn.  Check out my list of potent brain foods for a quick pick-me-up. I keep almonds at my desk for those occasions where I feel mentally sluggish.  About 10 to 20 almonds seem to really help me get the creative juices flowing.  Give it a try and see what you think.

3.  Listen to a Stirring Inspirational Talk

I get some of my best ideas while I’m listening to inspirational talks given by others.  This is an excellent way to stimulate your mind and get it out of a mental rut.  When you do this, be sure to take a small notebook and pen because you will want to capture the great ideas as they freely flow forth.  I find that if I don’t, then all the wonderful, creative flashes of brilliance evaporate before I get back to my desk.

4.  Practice, Practice, Practice

When I struggle being as creative as I want in an area, I’ve found a good way to loosen things up is to practice creativity in another way.  For example, if I’m experiencing a case of writer’s block, then I might try drawing for an hour.  This usually takes the pressure off and stimulates my creativity.  I can then go back to writing without the previous obstacles getting in the way.  If you need some resources to help open up your creativity, then give these a try.

5.  Go To Starbucks

I often avoid caffeine because it tends to over-stimulate me, but if I’m in a real mental slump and need to rally, then I’ll stop off at my local Starbucks.  A healthy dose of caffeine and a half-hour with one of my favorite motivational books is usually all it takes and I’ve got a whole page of great ideas to start working on.  This is a quick-fix that I don’t use often, but when I really need to deliver, it never fails me.

6.  Marvel at Nature

Nature is a masterpiece.  I can honestly spend hours admiring the stunning workmanship.  I don’t know if this is the same for everyone, but spending a little time in nature is reviving and rejuvenating for me.  There are no finer examples of creativity in action than what you can find in the great outdoors.  The colors, the imagination and the execution are all perfect.  I always walk away with more than enough inspiration to create my own creative treasure.

7.  Engage in a Vigorous Discussion

Okay, I’ll admit it.  I like to argue vigorously debate various ideas with others.  I find it mentally stimulating.  I’m not talking about the kind of discourse where animosity, frustration and hurt feelings are involved.  I’m more interested in passionate discussions that push and challenge me to creative problem-solving.  The engagement awakens something in my mind that is powerful and inventive.

Stimulate Your Mind and It Will Amaze You

Don’t let your mind be lazy!  You’ve got enormous creative potential just waiting to get loose and all you’ve got to do is help it find a way out of your head.  The techniques above work for me and my hope is that you’ll find one or two that work for you too.  Try combining two or three for some really amazing results.

Are there other ways you stimulate your mind for greater creativity?  I’d love to hear what works for you.  Leave a comment below and let me in on your secret.
